Marijuana reform a hot topic in the upcoming election: Over the last five years or so we have gained some pretty good ground on marijuana legalization. With polls showing 64% of Americans support legal recreational marijuana use and around 90% support medical marijuana, lawmakers are increasingly realizing the public supports marijuana policy reforms.
However, there are politicians and lawmakers out there that continue to try and destroy the marijuana reform act. One of the biggest enemies to marijuana reform is Senator Jeff Sessions. He once noted that the Ku-Klux-Klan was okay until he found out they smoked pot. In April 2017 he urged the government to relay that "good people don't smoke marijuana." This guy would eliminate all cannabis users if he could, but I believe he is going to find strong opposition even among his own political party.
On the other hand, the former Republican speaker of the House John Boehner, who was totally opposed to decriminalizing marijuana laws, has now joined the board of directors for a cannabis company. His change of mind is now going to help roll-back federal regulations on cannabis. Even US President Donald Trump at his Rose Garden White House speech on April 12, 2018 in Washington, DC. said, He will support protection for legal marijuana. But, you can bet that republican leadership will still be in our way.
Politicians need to realize that Americans want marijuana legalization, and to end prohibition on a harmless plant. It's your vote that will count in the upcoming election to end marijuana prohibition. Talk to your political candidates and find out where they stand on marijuana reform. Below is a list of Pro-Cannabis and Anti-Cannabis politicians. We will update the list as more candidates come forward.
